Reminder: Senior Award Ceremony Cancelled – still turn in awards

Due to the limited number of students who submitted awards and achievements for inclusion in the Senior Award Ceremony this year, we have made the unfortunate decision to cancel the event. Students who submitted their awards and scholarships will have that information included in the Graduation Ceremony on June 5.

Seniors wishing to add to their awards list may still do so but must give submissions to Ms. Baker no later than Friday, May 22, 3:00 pm. If you need a new form or more information on how to fill it out, see Ms. Baker in the Career Center or email jbaker@onysd.wednet.edu.

OHS Juniors – Are You Planning On Taking The SAT Senior Year? Preregister Now!Although some four-year colleges don't require an admission test score as part of your application, the test strengthens your college application nearly everywhere. Most U.S. colleges and universities accept the SAT. If you're not sure which college you want to attend, it's a good idea to take the test.

Taking the SAT is strong evidence that you're ready for college and have what colleges are looking for. Plus, you can choose to only send your best scores to colleges. Together with high school grades, the SAT can show your potential to succeed in college or career.

For more information on the SAT click here. Space is limited! To preregister for the SAT, sign up in the College & Career Center NOW.  The testing date for the Fall 2026 SAT will be announced at a later date.  Practice tests are available at https://satsuite.collegeboard.org/psat-nmsqt/preparing/practice-tests.

Montclair University Early Bird Junior Admissions – June 15

Designed to give high school juniors the opportunity to get a jump start on their college search and apply for admission (for free) before their senior year even begins, the Early Bird Program is non-binding.

How does it work? Interested juniors may apply starting today, until June 15, 2026, for admission to Montclair’s Fall 2027 class. We require a copy of their high school transcript that includes junior year grades through the second marking period to be received by June 20th. Please contact us if that poses any challenge for your school district and we will work with you to find a resolution. Students who are admitted are guaranteed admission to the university for Fall 2027. Decisions will be released by July 15, 2026.

What about scholarships? Students who are eligible for a merit scholarship will be informed of their award as part of the Early Bird process.

Can students who are denied Junior Admission apply again for regular admission? Early Bird applicants who are not admissible over the summer will be deferred and reviewed again during the academic year. We'll encourage those students to have updated grades sent in the fall or winter of their senior year before we re-review their application. Students will not have to apply again.

Set up a telecounseling appointment with an admissions counselor or email askthedirector@montclair.edu with questions.

OHS Juniors - ALA Evergreen Girls State – Deadline June 17

What is ALA Evergreen Girls State? The American Legion Auxiliary’s (ALA) marquee Girls State program, first presented in 1947, is one of the most respected and coveted experiential learning programs presented in the United States. The program epitomizes the ALA’s mission to honor veterans through our enduring commitment to develop young women as future leaders grounded in patriotism and Americanism. The young women become knowledgeable in the democratic process and how our republic form of government works at the local, state and national levels.

Each summer, approximately 20,000 young women participate in weeklong ALA Girls State programs across the nation. Every ALA Girls State program operates with the same patriotic values through a nonpartisan curriculum where students assume the roles of government leaders, modeled after their own state. This year’s event will be held June 21 – 26, 2026, at Central Washington University, in Ellensburg.

Select high school girls who have completed their junior year spend an intensive week of experiential learning working together as self-governing citizens. These young women learn government and the rights, privileges, and responsibilities of franchised citizens by forming a fictitious state of cities; electing public officials at the local, county, and state levels; and carrying out the duties of those offices. The week’s activities include simulated legislative sessions and government proceedings, along with presentations, assemblies, and recreational programs.

OHS JUNIOR GIRLS - Click for more information or to apply. Tuition sponsorships may be available to select students. Deadline to submit applications is June 17, 2026.
