OHS NEWS & OPPORTUNITIES:
Thought For The Week:
Proceed as if success is inevitable.
OHS Juniors – Are You Planning On Taking The SAT Senior Year? Preregister Now!
Although some four-year colleges don't require an admission test score as part of your application, the test strengthens your college application nearly everywhere. Most U.S. colleges and universities accept the SAT. If you're not sure which college you want to attend, it's a good idea to take the test.
Taking the SAT is strong evidence that you're ready for college and have what colleges are looking for. Plus, you can choose to only send your best scores to colleges. Together with high school grades, the SAT can show your potential to succeed in college or career.
For more information on the SAT click here. Space is limited! To preregister for the SAT, sign up in the College & Career Center no later than Friday, May 1, 2026. The testing date for the Fall 2026 SAT will be announced at a later date. Practice tests are available at https://satsuite.collegeboard.org/psat-nmsqt/preparing/practice-tests.
For more information, stop by the College and Career Center during lunch, or before or after school, or contact Ms. Baker at jbaker@onysd.wednet.edu.

OHS JUNIORS - ALA EVERGREEN GIRLS STATE – Deadline June 17
What is ALA Evergreen Girls State? The American Legion Auxiliary’s (ALA) marquee Girls State program, first presented in 1947, is one of the most respected and coveted experiential learning programs presented in the United States. The program epitomizes the ALA’s mission to honor veterans through our enduring commitment to develop young women as future leaders grounded in patriotism and Americanism. The young women become knowledgeable in the democratic process and how our republic form of government works at the local, state and national levels.
Each summer, approximately 20,000 young women participate in weeklong ALA Girls State programs across the nation. Every ALA Girls State program operates with the same patriotic values through a nonpartisan curriculum where students assume the roles of government leaders, modeled after their own state. This year’s event will be held June 21 – 26, 2026, at Central Washington University, in Ellensburg.
Select high school girls who have completed their junior year spend an intensive week of experiential learning working together as self-governing citizens. These young women learn government and the rights, privileges, and responsibilities of franchised citizens by forming a fictitious state of cities; electing public officials at the local, county, and state levels; and carrying out the duties of those offices. The week’s activities include simulated legislative sessions and government proceedings, along with presentations, assemblies, and recreational programs.
OHS JUNIOR GIRLS - Click for more information or to apply. Tuition sponsorships may be available to select students. Deadline to submit applications is June 17, 2026.
